What is Cashmere?

Cashmere comes from Kashmir, a region with extreme temperatures in the far north of the Sub-Indian continent. Special goats in Kashmir have a unique fleece close to their skin, known as Cashmere, which keeps them cool in summer and warm in winter. During the transition from winter to summer, Himalayan goats naturally shed their Cashmere, which is collected by combing, not shearing. The Cashmere goat has two types of hair: the outer coat, which is not useful, and the Underdown hair, which is combed to extract fine raw Cashmere. The raw Cashmere is sorted by color, texture, and length, with longer fibers considered higher quality. Cashmere fibers have a diameter of not more than 0.019mm.
